Since 1999, activists at Indiana University have fought to ensure that clothes bearing the school's logo are not produced in sweatshops. On February 7th, the university took a large step forward in the fight by approving the "Sweatfree Campus" proposal. This proposal, undertaken locally by No Sweat!, the Bloomington branch of United Students Against Sweatshops, will force companies to manufacture IU-licensed apparel in designated "sweatfree" factories. IU is the fifth school to adopt this program. Recently No Sweat!, hosted a local appearance of a national campus tour, featuring union leaders from El Salvador, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic who toil relentlessly for better working conditions in garment factories in their home countries. Over the next three weeks on Hola Bloomington you'll hear the stories of their heroic struggles for human rights.
