A Bloomington neighborhood with a high percentage of low-income residents will once again serve as the backdrop for the annual National Night Out crime prevention awareness event. National Night Out brings together citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities. Last year over 37 million people participated in National Night Out across the U.S. This year's event is on August 4th in front of the Bloomington Housing Authority in the Crestmont public housing neighborhood. Associate Professor of Law and Society at Ramapo College of New Jersey Dr. Jillian T. Weis discusses the Employment NonDiscrimination Act (ENDA) from a transgender woman’s perspective. A specialist on workplace protection law, a trans activist, and a founder of Facebook’s "inclusive ENDA" group, Weis provides an overview of the legal arguments for and against the new all-inclusive legislation (the original legislation omitted gender and sexual orientation) and why it is important to present a united front in support of its passage. bOUT2 is a spinoff podcast of bloomingOUT, Indiana's only out, loud, and proud radio show, a public affairs program dedicated to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
