WFHB presents the 3rd Annual July 4th Acoustic Roots festival - behind the barn at The Story Inn in Story, Indiana, on Sunday July 4, 2010, from 1pm until 9pm. The festival is a benefit for WFHB, Community Radio for South-Central Indiana.
This year's headliner is WFHB’s most played artist of 2009, roots music sensation Eilen Jewell.
Boise-born and Boston-based, Eilen Jewell has quickly distinguished herself as one of the rising stars of a new generation of roots musicians. Her first two albums, Boundary County (self-released, 2006) and Letters from Sinners and Strangers (Signature Sounds, 2007) matched Jewell’s understated yet insightful songs with a rugged blend of Americana styles.
Her third album, Sea of Tears, fills in a vital missing element of her musical persona. With Sea of Tears, Jewell and her longtime band wed her unflinching songwriting with a rustic, pre-Beatles swagger that fuses vintage R&B, Midwestern garage rock, Chicago blues, early rock and rockabilly - while maintaining the haunting, folk-inspired purity that first made her an artist to watch.
Area favorites White Lightning Boys, Tim Grimm and Jan Lucas, Bobbie Lancaster, Davy Jay Sparrow and Garden of Joy will perform throughout the afternoon.
White Lightning Boys and Tim Grimm will be playing WFHB’s Acoustic Roots Festival for the third year in a row. Brown County bluegrass favorites White Lightning Boys are currently preparing to record their first album. Folksinger Tim Grimm is in the middle of busy summer of touring and will be joined by his wife Jan Lucas for this performance.
Bloomington singer-songwriter Bobbie Lancaster has a fresh new self-titled solo CD release out that is currently in WFHB’s Top Ten. Hailing from Greene County, Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well Known Famous Drovers play classic upbeat honky-tonk country music updated with topical lyrics. Garden of Joy, Bloomington’s favorite jug band, play jug band and country-blues classics, along with oddball covers done up in jug band style.
No Coolers, please. Food and drink available on site - featuring food from Story Inn's summer kitchen and restaurant, plus beer and wine on the festival grounds. Kids under 12 free. Leashed dogs welcome.
