Indiana State Representative Matt Pierce is the newest member of the WFHB board of directors.The board unanimously approved Pierce’s selection during their February board meeting. Pierce fills the unexpired term of Duane Schau, who stepped down last fall.“Matt Pierce will bring another set of skills and another network to an already strong board of directors,” said WFHB Board President Mark Need. “I look forward to working with him and drawing upon his expertise and experience in radio and telecommunications law.”Pierce has a long association with WFHB, having served on the station’s Community Advisory Board when the station first went on the air in 1993. Pierce received his degree in telecommunications and political science from IU in 1984, and went on to get his law degree from IU Bloomington in 1984. He has been a member of the Indiana House of Representatives since 2002, and served as Chief of Staff for Congressman Baron Hill (1999-2002). Beyond WFHB, Pierce is a member of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, and is a member of the executive board of the Bloomington Amateur Radio Club.Pierce currently holds the position of Lecturer with the IU Department of Telecommunications.“I have always been a big fan of local radio that promotes diversity on the public airwaves, so I am pleased to join the WFHB board,” Pierce said. “At a time when more and more local media have severely reduced or eliminated their coverage of local issues and events, it’s vitally important to support stations like WFHB that are firmly committed to local programming.”
