WFHB offers "Digital Daze" to raise funds for new transmitter

WFHB  will be producing its eighth live radio variety show on March 13 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre."Firehouse Follies: Digital Daze" will feature music, skits, storytelling, and comedy, and will serve as a fundraiser for WFHB's digital conversion effort.Headliners for the show will be all local musicians, and include Ginger Curry and Art Heckman. Additionally, Cathi Norton and her Firehouse Gospel Singers will be back by popular demand to provide the audience a look at some of the best-known songs from the “Girl Group” tradition, and the house band will once again be Dennis Riggins and the Firehouse Swing Thing. Local storyteller Arbutus Cunningham will also be on hand to co-host the show and keep the audience entertained with timely rants and a story. This show will also move into the field of “radio dance,” with performances by  Fiddle ‘n Feet and Allana Redecki. Producer/writer Mike Kelsey said, “This show will explore some of the directions WFHB might go if it had a second digital channel, and we will also present a skit called ‘Lost Amongst the Lunchmeats’ that will explain many aspects of popular culture, including some that we suspect people would rather remain ignorant about.”The show will be presented to a live audience at Bloomington’s Buskirk Chumley Theatre from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 13. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Buskirk-Chumley box office or at the door. Proceeds will provide matching dollars to help the station qualify for a federal grant to replace its current, aging transmitter with digital equipment. The station is facing a March 15th deadline to make the match, so this is the last chance we'll have to enlist our listeners' support for the digital conversion! Enjoy an evening's entertainment and help out Bloomington's ONLY community radio station.
