Chad Carrothers here, in Indianapolis at the annual awards banquet of the Society of Professional Journalists. I am proud to announce WFHB has just won first place in the category of Best Social Justice Reporting! This is for a piece on generational homelessness exploring the story of a father and son who have found that being homeless together has bonded them in a way that transcends typical father-son relationships. You can listen to it by CLICKING HERE. This feature report was produced at WFHB for the 2008 National Homelessness Marathon and aired on hundreds of stations. Our 2009 report was even better so we'll be sure to submit that piece for next year's awards. This segment is the only WFHB production ever submitted to SPJ, which means we're one-for-one. As the winners in each category were announced I kept thinking how we COULD have put in dozens of submissions in almost as many categories. Our volunteers produce so much excellent work and it all deserves to be recognized. Goal for next year is TEN awards!
