An Evening With Border Radio Part 2 - WFHB Live Broadcast

Carl “Deacon” Moore (9:53)

One of the favorite musicians and bandleaders heard on Border Radio was Carl “Deacon” Moore (beautifully impersonated by Art Heckman), whose combination of music, comedy and salesmanship deserves to be better remembered today.

The Firehouse Swing Thing (7:25)

Back home in 2009, Dennis Riggins leads the Firehouse Swing Thing in a great original jazz number.

Arbutus Cunningham (5:20)

Bloomington’s favorite storyteller offers up the hilarious tragedy which befell her family after Father, one strange day, suddenly – but you’ll have to hear it for yourself.

The Good Neighbor Show (13:09)

Our final trip to 1938 showcases this popular program starring Janie and Johnny (portrayed by Jeni and Billy) in a classic Border Radio mixture of country music and commercials for those ever-popular products from Fiddlin’ Joe.

The Neighborhood (12:12)

Coming back to the present, the RadioSynclastic Infandibulator goes down for the third time, so Richard Fish takes us out into a typical Bloomington neighborhood. In a fond tribute to radio’s classic “Allen’s Alley,” he asks a number of local folk how the current economic downturn is affecting them.

Jeni and Billy – Second Set (8:12)

Nashville’s Appalachian songbirds are back with another of their lovely original songs, including “Jewel Ridge Coal” (title tune from their CD) and a traditional number, “A Pretty Fair Miss.”

Turn Your Radio On (6:02)

The show concludes with our favorite electronic gospel number, credits, and cheers from the fabulous audience in attendance at the Buskirk-Chumley that evening.
