bloomingOUT is proud to welcome iconic lesbian activist Alix Dobkin, author of “My Red Blood: A Memoir of Growing Up Communist, Coming Onto the Greenwich Village Folk Scene and Coming Out in the Feminist Movement”. Dobkin made history on the music scene as a singer-songwriter and producer of "Lavender Jane Loves Women", the very first album by, for, and about lesbians. Alix reflects on the early feminist and lesbian movements, comments on present-day politics, and extolls the virtues of being a grandparent. We hear several musical selections including the infamous “Lesbian Code”. Also in this program: Indianapolis poet Lylanne Musselman reads from “A Charm Bracelet for Cruising” on a new edition of "L Words". PRIDE Lafayette president Brian Bell and vice president and coordinator of this year’s OUTfest Ashley Smith provide updates about the festivities coming up on August 21 in Lafayette, Indiana. bloomingOUT also features the latest in national and international queer headline news and a community calendar highlighting local and regional events of interest to the queer community and our allies. Hosted by Helen Harrell and Sarah Hughes.
