Bloomington residents Jim Doud and Glenn Lassiter discuss the importance of appropriate estate planning for LGBTQI couples. Because queer couples are denied the right to marry in most states, they are left vulnerable to excessive inheritance taxes and challenges to wills and testaments. This makes it difficult to protect one’s own property rights and the rights of surviving partners. LGBTQ couples are generally denied automatic rights to survivorship except in states that allow same sex marriage or comparable civil unions and domestic partner policies. bOUT2 is a spinoff podcast of bloomingOUT, Indiana's only out, loud, and proud radio show, a public affairs program dedicated to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
