Bring It On! - August 30, 2010

Local Muslims and their supporters weigh in on the national debate over the Islamic community center and mosque planned for construction near the site where thousands of Americans lost their lives in the terrorist plot of September 11, 2001. Faiz Rahman is president of the Islamic Center of Bloomington, joining us in the studo alongside Navruz Nekbakhtshoev and his wife Kristine Kohlmeier, a local attorney. Also in this program: the first installment of a series highlighting black performers at this year's Lotus Festival brings us two tracks from Emeline Michel, who marries social and political content to the distinctive, danceable Afro-Caribbean rhythms of traditional Haitian music and is one of the few women bandleaders in Caribbean music. As always, Bring It On! features regional and national news and a regional calendar highlighting events relevant to the local African-American community. Hosted by Cornelius Wright and Bev Smith.
