Yvette Alex-Assensoh is dean of Indiana University's Office for Women's Affairs, a political scientist and an attorney who conducts research and teaches in the area of American politics. In law, she specializes in family law and mediation. Her research focuses primarily on civic engagement among marginalized groups, including women and racial minorities. The Office for Women's Affairs exists to empower women and advocate for policies and practices that encourage full participation of women in the university community. The office provides counseling, coaching and referral services to faculty, staff and students at no charge. Also in this program: our savvy sistah Leila Randle offers tips for cost-effective pet ownership on a new edition of "HomeGurl Shopping", an advice column from one black woman trying to survive in a tough economy. Our featured musical artists are Toumani Diabate and the late Ali Farka Touré. In their second collaboration, simply titled “Ali and Toumani”, these two world ambassadors to the music of Mali intertwine their respective visions that embrace their country’s history and culture.
