The 2009 Bloomington Multicultural Expo will be held on October 10, celebrating the diverse cultures of Bloomington with entertainment, food and activities from local cultural organizations. Included in the festivities will be four dynamic cultural "villages" - Soul Food Festival Village, Festival Latino Village, Moon Festival Village, and International Festival Village. Festival planners Pam Freeman from Indiana University's Office of Student Ethics and Anti-Harassment Programs and president of the IU Latino Enhancement Cooperative Jennifer Rios join us in the studio to talk about how events such as this help to dissolve barriers between people and open the doors to future collaborations. Also in this program: Liz Mitchell takes you on a tour of significant landmarks in Indiana black history on a new edition of "Dark Past, Bright Future", a regular feature segment on historical perspectives you won't hear in mainstream media. Our featured musical artist is Minyeshu, an Ethiopian songstress who was supposed to perform at this past weekend's Lotus World Music and Arts Festival but didn’t even make it into the country when her visa was denied by federal authorities who said her application failed to demonstrate that she is a "culturally unique" entertainer. As always Bring It On! features regional and national headline news and a regional calendar highlighting events relevant to the local African-American community. Hosted by Beverly Calender-Anderson and Jim Sims.
