Hola Bloomington - June 4, 2010

Host Cristian Medina welcomes musician, author and scholar Tomas Lozano to the show. Lozano's music is a revival of folk, traditional and medieval ballads from Spain. His newest album "La MaƱana de San Juan" features such unique instruments as the hurdy gurdy, renaissance lute, and the Spanish lute. Lozano says classical ballads are epic lyrical poems that served as a kind of news bulletin, informing people of past and current events through the "jongleurs" who sang them. Hola Bloomington also offers Latin American news provided by Radio Bilingue and we highlight this week's local community events and volunteer opportunities in a segment prepared by Jenny Gibson and Daniel Soto. Also featured: cultural segments produced by Nuevos Horizontes, a program of the University of Illinois Extension.
