Music today from the station's collection and also from the depths of my own record library--the LP's I've not listened to for some time, much less brought them in to play on any show I've done.
Tilman is back for a one-off, covering for Bill.
Music for the celebration of life of a deceased local social activist, an all-day Sacred Harp sing and general impressions on life all shaped today's show.
As this is the weekend of the end-of-the-summer Contra dance shindig that is 'Sugar HIll,' music recorded at that fabled dance was featured, recorded by this week's host, Mark Richardson. Tunes & songs from a lot of LP's, mostly in the Old-Time vein, got played along with the usual mis-mash of Twang, Blues and other rootsy music.
Two good events from the past weekend (Battleground Fiddlers' Gathering) and the future (the WFHB Acoustic Roots Festival in Story, Indiana on the 4th) account for a chunk of the music aired on today's show, along with the 'normal' (to me) programming expected of this show.
After listening to Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys in my truck for the better part of a week's worth of driving to work, I decided to make that band my feature artist on this week's show. Music for this came from a two-record United Artists release of the mid-'70's, "For the Last Time," that featured surviving members of Wills' band and a few dedicated fans of the band (including Mere Haggard.) New Old-Time music from Seattle-based bands The Tallboys and Squirrel Butter added to the mix of stuff brought from home and from the station's library.
Today's show was programmed entirely from the library of music we have here at WFHB.
